Combat creasing and smudging of your eyeshadow by applying foundation and powder on your eyelids to create a base. Use a sponge-tip applicator for eyeshadow, and set it with a whiff of loose powder on a brush applied on top of the eyeshadow.
For the fullest lashes, brush your mascara into the base of your lashline, as close to the root as possible. Then brush up towards the end of the lashes. Use the tip of the brush to get to the finer lashes at the corners of the eye.
Place your favorite fragrance on your pulse points, such as the inside of your wrist or elbow, where little body heat is emitted to allow the true scent
If your lashes are stubbornly facing down, here is a tip: heat your eyelash curler with a blowdryer for a minute before curling your lashes. The heat will make your lashes more accommodating. If your eyelashes are sparse and fine, you can apply a little loose powder to them with your finger to give them more "body." Then apply your mascara as usual.
Can't seem to get your lipliner on straight? Try this trick: make a dot with your lip pencil at the two peaks of your lips, at the corners, and right in the center of the top and bottom lip. Then just connect the dots, one at a time.
Make your lashes look more natural after applying mascara by using an eyelash comb or brush. This tool will separate the lashes that may have "clumped" together during the mascara application process. Be sure to pick up your comb or brush and separate your lashes while they are still damp. Once the lashes are dry, they become too stiff to work with.
Licking your lips, cold weather, drying lip products and not drinking enough water all contribute to a dry, chapped, not-so-pretty pout. Look for lubricating ingredients in your lip products like lanolin, isopropyl palmitate, and almond oil. Skin conditioners like castor oil and petrolatum are also good to retain moisture. Apply lip balm and/or lipstick frequently throughout the day to keep lips moist and protected. And remember to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day!
How can you prevent foundation from fading? Well, you can't really prevent it entirely without looking totally artificial. However, you can make foundation last longer by selecting a formula that is designed to work with your skin type, setting it with loose powder and touching it up during the day with a compact. The result is that your skin will look fresh throughout the day.
To touch up a makeup during the day, keep the following on-hand: a compact powder with a mirror, a lip color, a cream blush, and an eye pencil. If you do your makeup on the run most of the time (i.e. in trains, taxis, backseat of a car...), add a concealer, a mascara and an eyebrow pencil, and you will ready under any circumstances.
Ran out of pimple cream? In an emergency, you can use toothpaste -- it has drying properties that will help dry out the blemish.
Instructions for the eyelash curler-phobic: Place your mirror almost under your chin, so you look down at it and raise your eyebrows almost as if you were surprised. Carefully place your lashes in the curler, clamp firmly and count to ten. Then open care
Wait a few minutes after applying a fragrance before you decide if it is the right scent for you. It takes time for a perfume's true smell to come through.
Don't purchase a perfume just because it smells good on a friend. Everyone's skin is different and what smells great on someone else may not be right for you. Try two or three different scents and choose the one that expresses your unique personality.
You can help your lipstick stay on longer by using a matching lipliner, and applying it as a base and outline (this will help keep the color in place), then coating it with a lipstick applied with a brush. For extra long wear, you can blot off oils with a thin tissue, dab some loose powder on top of the lipstick to set it, brush the excess powder off, and apply a second coat. This way it will stay on for hours.
Get the most out of your makeup tools, and clean them at least once a month! Good quality puffs are made from cotton velour, and brushes are organic materials, so they will last for years, if you keep them very clean. Wash powder puffs with antibacterial liquid handsoap, and let them dry on a paper towel. Brushes can be washed with shampoo, but be careful not to wet the ferrule, which is the metal part that holds the bristles together, because it could loosen the bristles. You can also use brush cleaner, which allows you to just dip the brush into the liquid, and wipe it of with a paper towel.
To give yourself a healthy glow, apply blush to the "apple" of your cheek. If you use a cream formula, apply with your fingers. If it's powder, use a brush that is not too big, or you'll sweep on too much color. The apple of the cheek is the part that protrudes so nicely when you smile.
Chubby cheeks got you down? Once your makeup is applied, finish it off by dipping a slim blush brush in a deep terra-cotta powder, and apply it right under the cheekbone, following its shape. For more depth, blend the powder with a taupe eyeshadow.
We love beauty marks -- they give women personality, something special that makes them unique. The perfect face is an icon of the past. Uniqueness is in. But if you're really bugged by a beauty mark, don't use an opaque foundation to cover your entire complexion. It could look chalky, and make you look older than you are. It's smarter to apply your foundation as usual, and use a concealer (stick or pencil) that matches your skin to touch up each and every one of your beauty marks with the help of a tiny brush. Set the concealer with loose powder.
A few tips for selecting an eyeshadow shade: use matte or satin textures for day, and shimmery textures at night. Don?t try to match your eyecolor with a shadow, it looks really dated. Stick to neutrals or contrasting shades, which show off your eyes' col
Here's a couple of tricks to give your lipstick extra-long life. First, start by dusting your lips with a little powder. Then use a pencil in a color matching the lipstick to fill in the lips. Finally, apply the lipcolor with a brush (not only does it go on better, but it lasts longer this way). For lips that go that extra mile, you can carefully blot the lips with a thin tissue to remove the superfluous oils, dust a little powder on top, and as a last step, reapply another coat. VoilĂ !
Don't excluse your hair from your sun-protection regimen. Today, there are many hair products that include a sunscreen. Additionally, you can apply a leave-in conditioner to help your hair maintain its moisture level. This is especially important when you are swimming, since exposure to salt water and chlorine can rob hair of moisture and leave it damaged.
Next time you hesitate before splurging on brushes, just remember that they will give your makeup a professional quality. A small slanted concealer brush can let you perfectly hide imperfections, a lipstick brush makes the application of lipstick even and clean, and a small blush brush will give you a healthy glow.
How often should you replace your mascara? What you need to watch out for is the presence of harmful bacteria that can cause an eye infection. If you keep your mascara clean, closed when not in use, and at room temperature, you can safely use it for 3-6 months. Remember not to share your mascara, and to discard it if you notice any change in odor or texture.
Don't be afraid to switch fragrances. Your body chemistry changes throughout your life, so chances are a perfume you bought five years ago doesn't work as well for you anymore.
Some tips on removing mascara: Wrap a cotton pad soaked with eye makeup remover around your index finger. Close your eye, gently press the cotton against the lashes, count to ten, then sweep carefully outward toward the temple.
Want to make your lips look fuller? "Erase" your natural lipline with concealer, and set with powder. Then draw just an outline outside your natural lipline with a lip pencil slightly darker than your lipstick. Fill in with your lipstick.
An eyelash curler is a girl's best beauty-friend. Its job is to curl your lashes, which immediately makes your eyes bigger, and allows you to better judge how much eye makeup you really need. What matters is that the curler fits the shape of your eye. Some of the cheap ones from the drugstore are just too round and too narrow. Ask around, and shop around, before making your purchase.
